When Life Gets Tough ... Remember That You Are Tougher

This week has been an exhausting one, both emotionally and physically.  Over the weekend we had a loss in our little family. Quinn's pet Hamster, Freckles, passed away after 2 wonderful years with us.  My sweet Quinn was devastated "Mama I am so sad because he was my baby boy and I was his Mama"  That evening we went to Michael's house and Quinn was armed with a small container in which she had placed a picture of Freckles that she had drawn.  She told everyone her sad news than quickly recovered as they ran and climbed some trees.  Michael, being the amazing man that he is, dug a hole for Quinn and when she was ready they had a little burial for her Hamster.  He covered it with rocks for her and made a little cross, now she knows she can visit it any time she wants.

A couple of days after this loss I received a phone call from my Dad that I knew was coming but at the same time was wishing I would somehow not receive.  My Grandma had passed away, softly, gently and peacefully with loved ones by her side.  We spend the day hugging and kissing and loving each other just a little more I surrounded myself with those that I loved and I kept a continuous list of all that I am grateful for running through my head.  I just want to say my support system rocks!  My Grandma was a strong and kind woman, she will be greatly missed.

To top all of this off my little Aisley has been having some health issues and this week it went from bad to worse.  I took immediate action, got her in for an x-ray and saw her Doctor.  Poor little mite has a blockage and her tummy is hurting her a whole lot.  But in true Aisley fashion she has still been smiling and playing throughout all her different treatments to try to fix it.

^^ A little dance party ( Rebecca Black - Friday) this morning because I knew today would be a bad one ^^

She has been a trooper throughout ... but today ... I knew today would be bad, yet I was not prepared for just how bad today would be.  She did not like the medicine she had to drink and it was a fight, but I tell you she was proud of herself when she got through it!

The pain this little one has been in today is just gut wrenchingly heartbreaking.  It was a tough day for us and we spent a lot of time crying and hugging each other.  Her tummy hurts and I cant make it go away.  So today I did something I don't do very often, I asked for help.  I find it hard to do but always feel better once I do.  I tell you I know some pretty amazing women and I am lucky to have them in my life. We are crossing our fingers that this treatment works cause they only get worse if it doesn't.

It's true that life is tough, but it is even more true that we are tougher.  My children remind me of this every single day.  So that's what we are doing these days, we are being tough, we are taking it one day at a time, and we are loving each other ... yes love ... love is what we have and love is what we hold onto.

Pinterest Challenge Week 43

This past week has been a rough one for my family so I haven't had much time, energy or desire to get creative but I wanted to keep up with my posts.  So I decided to post a little "life hack" that will be filed into my good to know folder on Pinterest.  I have done this for many many years and have shown a few people and every time I have shown someone it was like a light bulb went off and they were all ... hey of course why didn't I think of that.

I don't know about you guys but my kids and my daycare kids LOVE stickers.  The trouble is the little ones can never peal the stickers off of the sheets and they get very frustrated and since I think it is important for kids to have a sense of independence when crafting I figured out a way for them to easily peal off the stickers on their own.  You ready for it .... just peal the back sticker off of the sheet.

Once the background sticker is off the sheet the children can very easily peal the stickers off all on their own. YUP .... you're welcome ;)

Pinterest Challenge Week 42

The season of wreaths in upon us and if your anything like me I love a good homemade wreath.  Starting in the fall I get the itch and I have a million ideas of what type of wreath I would like to make.  Well the trouble is the foam wreaths are expensive, then you need materials to cover them so making a whole bunch of them is out of the questions, I just cant justify spending that much money of making wreaths.  So I found this little tip on Pinterest and thought I would give it a try.  I went to Lowes and found the foam tubing in the plumbing department and cut it into three sections when I got home.  I lined up the two ends and taped them together and made my very own little foam wreath.  Now the only trouble I found is that it is pretty flimsy so it doesn't hold a solid shape as well as a "regular" foam wreath.  Now I have also seen this method with a small pool noodle and I'm thinking that it may hold its shape better so I want to try that next .... hmmm now where can I find some pool noodles in the fall.

The foam all wrapped in yarn for one of my fall wreaths that I am finishing up .... the final product will be in another post very soon.

Pinterest Challenge Week 41

Once a banana over ripens I have always thrown them in the freezer still in the peel and then would use them for banana bread as they can't be peeled till after they thaw and they are slimy and the peel is black and I could not imagine putting them into my smoothie like that.  BUT did you know if you cut them up and put them in the freezer outside of the peel they will freeze perfectly, then I put them into a Ziploc and they were ready to go for smoothies.  Another favourite treat with them is to make "ice-cream".  All you do is put them into the food processor and keep mixing till it is the consistency of ice-cream, give it time trust me it will get there.  You can serve it that way or add another frozen fruit and mix, we like strawberry banana "ice-cream"  My kids love it and its completely healthy ... its win win!

Pinterest Challenge Week 40

We have been doing some Thanksgiving Crafts in our house and this one was one of my favourites.  My sister and I did this craft with children between the ages of 1.5 and 3.  With the 1.5 year olds we did not give them any of the leaves as they would have crumpled them, so we gave them extra pompoms and feathers.  So for this craft we cut out a wreath for each child and gave them a plate with glue and a brush.  We put out dried leaves, pompoms, feathers and ribbon and let them get creative.

Another fun fall craft is collecting items while out on a walk and then gluing them and painting them on a piece of paper.

Pinterest Challenge Week 39

We had a bunch of wands in our dress-up basket that were torn and broken so I decided to throw them all out and make some new ones for the girls.  I found a couple that I liked the idea of so I combined them and made a few different wands.  I bought a large doweling and cut it into three pieces for three wands.

Then I found this little hook to screw in (I have no idea what it's called, I found it in my picture hanging kit)  and I put them in the top of each want.

The red and blue ones I looped each ribbon through just a little then glued it to itself to keep them in place.  For the multi colour wand I doubled the length of the ribbons, once I pulled them through I tied them into a knot.  So cute to watch the girls play with them.

I have been working on my office area in my living room for a while, it's something that I wanted to take my time with and make it a space all my own.  I have a lot of different pens and markers and wanted to find a way to display them.  Those of you who know me know I have a love of mason jars so its no surprise that I used them to do some organizing in my office.  I got the idea here.  Its very simple, all I used was a hot glue gun and lined the jars up and glued them together.  Its as easy as that.
