A Snow Day in November

The beginning of the week started with rumours of snow coming ... a lot of snow.  The little bit that we got earlier and the rumours of a big storm coming our way finally gave me the kick in the ass I needed to finish cleaning up my backyard for winter, yes the cushions were still outside on the chairs what about it.

Doing this also inspired me to find a way to get my car to fit into the garage, something that has never happened in this house.  I have been working hard on the house and cleaning out a lot of clutter, I spent a lot of time in the summer organizing the garage but getting the car in there, that's a whole new level of organized.

So Aisley and I spent a couple hours out there and when it was the moment of truth Aisley stood in the doorway holding her breath and watched eagerly.  Seriously she squealed when I pulled the car into the garage, she jumped up and down clapping her hands exclaiming "Mommy Mommy you did it, the car is actually in the garage!"  Yup it was that big of a moment.  Trust me it was tight, but I did it ... I ... did ... it ... I got the car in the garage!

All that snow that was promised, it was delivered, and it was delivered in the most glorious of ways.  Over night magic happened and we woke in the morning to a beautiful winter wonderland. The cherry on top ... it was the first snow day of the school year, yup in November!  The day was perfect, and truly I mean perfect.  It was warm outside, the snow continued to slowly come down, the snow was perfect for building and playing and all the kids were so eager to jump in the snow and play.  Our sweet little Payton still joined us for the day and those three girls spent the whole day giggling and playing, it was honestly ... perfect.

Bonus of cold weather ... hot chocolate in Christmas mugs and paper straws in Christmas colours, it's the perfect combination.  Oh and don't forget the marshmallows, lots and lots of marshmallows.

November my expectations were high, I hugged the shit out of every last minute and my oh my you delivered!  I cant wait to see what December has in store for us, last month of 2013 .... bring it!

Pinterest Challenge Week 48

Pinterest has been a great source of Holiday ideas and inspiration, I love looking at all the different ideas and crafts and beautiful decorations.  I am inspired me to fill everyday with as much Christmas spender as possible.  The fact that it is still November hasn't slowed us down!  Pinterest has me busy and my mind full of new ideas but somethings I decided to keep easy and simple.  Take our gingerbread house for example, I buy the already assembled house with everything we need right in the box.  I could make it was more complicated but with the ages of the girls this kit is perfect!  One thing that I did this year that was genius, if I do say so myself, is I had the girls use pant brushes to put the icing on the house and on the candy.  They loved it, I loved it, there was no fighting, minimal mess and I could sit back and watch the mix of joy and concentration on their sweet little faces.

Pinterest Challenge Week 46

This year I decided to try something different for the Christmas season.  As soon as something comes to mind that we should do for Christmas I do it! It means that things are getting done early but it also means that we will be able to get more done and hopefully I won't feel like we missed out on doing anything.  With only having every second weekend with the girls I feel the time crunch at Christmas.

We planned a get together with a friend and decided that we should make some tree ornaments.  There are lots of options on Pinterest so I decided to go with this one.  It is a cornstarch and baking soda recipe and I really liked how white they were. So I made them up and left them to dry over night.

Unfortunately by the next afternoon they were not dry  so I popped them in the over and even more unfortunately I forgot about them in the oven.  But thankfully they just browned a little and we could still decorate them.

We used white glue and glitter and also some glitter glue also.  We gave them each a paintbrush and they got creative.

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
3/4 cup water

Mix the baking soda and cornstarch together in a pot.  Add in the water and constantly stir over medium heat until your mixture turns to dough.  Remove dough from pot, put in on a plate with a damp paper towel over it and leave until cooled.  Kneed the dough till smooth.  Roll out and cut into shapes, then using a straw add the hole for the string.  Leave to dry (I would say 24 hours at least till it dries) Or place in an over on low heat to dry.

Pinterest Challenge Week 45

My computer has not been working lately and really still isn't working now but I am so far behind I am just going to have to deal with it. With that being said it is now time for me to do a nice big catch up on the blog, hope you're ready for this ....

First lets start with a little Remembrance Day craft.  I looked on Pinterest for some ideas and then came up with this one on my own.  Very easy and fun for the kids.  I used a small and a large punch to get black and red circles, these will be the poppies

Next I cut a hole in the middle of a paper plate to make a wreath and had the little ones colour them in with some markers.

Next step was to glue on all the red circles then add the black ones into the middle of the red.

There you have it, a little Remembrance Day poppy wreath.

Happy Halloween

My girls have been talking about this Halloween since .... well ...  last Halloween.  They have been planning and talking about their costumes and so excited to fill their bags with candy.  So a long time ago Quinn and Aisley decided that they wanted to dress up as characters from the Wizard of Oz.  Hello clouds parting and angels singing ... Mama's dreams are coming true!  Quinn wanted to be Glenda and Aisley wanted to be Toto ... Ummmmm WAIT no Dorothy???  Thinking quickly I talked to Aisley and asked if maybe Daddy Woof Woof would like to be Toto and she could be Dorothy and I tell you those little eyes turned into saucers.  Daddy Woof Woof gets to dress up and go Trick or Treating its win win.

The girls were so excited to carve our pumpkin this year they asked me every night for a week until one night it was finally time.  They started by cleaning the pumpkin and planning how to carve it.  Once the top came off the pumpkin Aisley took one look and was having nothing to do with it.  She kept her distance but enjoyed watching from afar.  Quinn on the other hand ... she was all in.

^^ Can you tell this is a girl house or what! ^^

Could they be any cuter!

We are now into November and I am all over this Holiday business.  Christmas plans are coming along and we are savoring every minute of the last couple months of this year.  Oh Holiday season how I love you.
